VERBO EN FORMA BASE, INFINITIVO Y EL USO DE "TO"

🎯 Introducción

En inglés, los verbos cambian de forma según el tiempo, la persona y la estructura de la oración. Pero hay tres conceptos fundamentales que todo estudiante debe dominar:

  1. Forma base (Base Form) → el verbo "desnudo"

  2. Infinitivo (Infinitive) → el verbo con "to"

  3. Verbo + TO → cuándo y por qué se usa

💡 Confusión común: Muchos creen que "infinitivo" y "forma base" son lo mismo. NO lo son. El infinitivo incluye la palabra "to", la forma base no.


1️⃣ ¿QUÉ ES LA FORMA BASE? (Base Form)

📖 Definición

La forma base es el verbo en su estado más simple, sin terminaciones, sin "to", sin cambios. Es la forma que encuentras en el diccionario.

🔑 Características

  • No lleva "to"

  • No lleva -s, -es, -ed, -ing

  • No cambia según la persona

  • Es la forma que aparece en el diccionario

2️⃣ ¿QUÉ ES EL INFINITIVO? (Infinitive)

📖 Definición

El infinitivo es la forma verbal que en inglés se construye con "to" + forma base. Equivale al infinitivo en español (terminaciones -ar, -er, -ir).

🔑 Características

  • Siempre lleva "to" delante del verbo

  • El verbo va en forma base

  • No cambia según la persona ni el tiempo

  • Puede funcionar como sustantivo, adjetivo o adverbio

4️⃣ ¿CUÁNDO VA EL VERBO JUNTO CON "TO"?

Aquí está el corazón del tutorial. El "to" aparece en contextos específicos:

Algunos verbos siempre van seguidos de infinitivo con "to":

✅ CASO 3: Después de adjetivos

  • It's important to practice.

  • I'm happy to meet you.

  • She was surprised to see him.

  • It's difficult to understand.

✅ CASO 4: Después de sustantivos

  • I have a lot of work to do.

  • She has something to tell you.

  • There's nothing to worry about.

  • He needs a place to sleep.

5️⃣ VERBOS QUE NO LLEVAN "TO" (Bare Infinitive)

⚠️ ¡Cuidado! Algunos verbos van seguidos de forma base SIN "to":

    • Nota: "help" acepta ambas formas: help her carry o help her to carry.

📌 Después de "had better", "would rather"

  • You had better study. (Más te vale estudiar)

  • I would rather stay home. (Preferiría quedarme en casa)


6️⃣ VERBOS QUE PUEDEN LLEVAR "TO" O "ING" (¡Cambian significado!)

Algunos verbos cambian su significado según lo que los siga:

🎓 CONSEJOS FINALES

  1. Memoriza la fórmula: Infinitivo = TO + FORMA BASE. Siempre.

  2. Identifica el verbo principal: ¿Es modal? ¿Es want/need/decide? Eso determina si lleva "to" o no.

  3. La forma base nunca cambia: ni por persona, ni por tiempo.

  4. Practica con listas de verbos: los que llevan "to" y los que no.

  5. Lee en voz alta: tu oído interiorizará los patrones.
